We love all our webinars equally, but we do save a special spot in our hearts for our MSP partner series!

This month, we spoke to Top MSP Mentor, David Stokes, Manager, Solutions Consulting at OpenText Security Solutions, all about how you can build a strong foundational level of cybersecurity in your business, with a focus on Webroot as a tool. If you missed us, you can catch up right here, or keep reading for some choice highlights.

Data-driven threat findings

David gave us some background on his twenty years of experience in the business, and how he has spent many years as an MSP practitioner as well as a consultant. Selecting the right vendor tools in the security realm is tough! Webroot is a trusted company by David and his colleagues, and that’s why he decided to jump on board as a partner with them.

David introduced the audience to the BrightCloud Threat Intelligence report, based on data that is continuously and automatically collected by the BrightCloud Machine Learning platform. This data comes from 206M connected sensors, multiple third-party databases, and also vast intelligence from end users. The threat research team analyzes and interprets a vast amount of data to give a report on relevant trends, the impacts across industries and regions, and the expectations of threat experts for the year ahead.

The biggest takeaways include:

  • The decline of infection rates on Windows devices: Numbers have dropped from 8% of business PCs infected in 2019, to 2% in 2021.
  • Each attack journey is unique: 89.3% of malware was unique to one PC, with attackers targeting very granularly and contextually.
  • User behavior is the leading factor in risk: Ransomware continues to be spread in multi-stage ransomware attacks, usually starting from phishing.
  • Phishing is on the increase: Top targeted brands for phishing include Google, PayPal, Microsoft, Facebook, and Apple, especially over the holiday season.

Webroot to combat the growing risk

Multi-layered security is critical, and that’s what Webroot can offer. Webroot includes Business Endpoint Protection for managing clients across sites, Webroot DNS protection to stop up to 88% of malware at the domain layer, and Webroot Security Awareness Training to stop phishing scams and educate clients on compliance and risk.

Altogether, more than 90% of malware is stopped from getting to the endpoint and Webroot sees an almost 75% reduction in malware being downloaded as a result of the DNS-based network filtering service. These are all managed from a single management console, across all customers and sites. This solution is purpose-built for MSPs, making it easy to use, focused on responding to feedback, and airtight for threat resilience.

We love how David went into each of the three Webroot solutions in more detail, discussing which business needs they meet, and their differentiators.

Endpoint protection

Webroot Endpoint Protection offers collective threat intelligence and is highest ranked for speed and efficiency as it can be installed in under 10 seconds with an extremely lightweight agent. With Atera’s seamless integration, Webroot Endpoint Protection can be managed from inside Atera, for ultimate ease of use with the familiar Atera interface.

DNS protection

When it comes to DNS protection, Webroot combats the inherent problems with DNS, a legacy technology that lacks security and privacy. All communications are sent in clear text, and there is no connection intelligence or visibility over which server is fielding the requests. As a result, it’s an increasingly popular cyberattack vector, causing cache poisoning, data mining, and data exfiltration. Webroot offers full DoH support, and manages communication between the agent and the servers, fully encrypting data and ensuring it’s hidden from cybercriminals.

Security Awareness Training

Finally, David discussed the Security Awareness Training offers, explaining how dangerous the security posture of today’s employees is. 67% of workers are sure they’ve received a phishing email, and 40% of those didn’t report the incident. In Financial Services, Healthcare, Retail, Energy, and Privacy industries, security training is mandatory according to compliance regulations. Webroot has found that after 11 campaigns over 4-6 months, the phishing click-throughs are reduced by as much as 65%. After a year, this drops to under 5%, an 86.5% decrease.

This webinar was packed to the brim with actionable advice and insights! Watch the whole webinar to join the Q&A, as well as:

  • View a map of an in-depth ransomware journey, step by step
  • Learn how to get the best out of all the Webroot solutions
  • Understand new revenue opportunities by selling services to their own end users

Boosting Cybersecurity with Atera

As cybersecurity threats evolve, integrating Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) with Patch Management and Webroot’s advanced security solutions creates a formidable defense. The recent webinar with Webroot emphasized the growing risks in today’s digital landscape and how RMM tools can play a crucial role in enhancing security.

RMM platforms provide continuous oversight of IT systems, flagging vulnerabilities and anomalies in real time. This visibility is vital for effective Patch Management, which ensures that critical updates are applied promptly to address identified weaknesses. By incorporating Webroot’s cutting-edge threat intelligence and protection capabilities, organizations can leverage RMM to automate and prioritize patch deployment, enhancing overall security.

Together, Webroot’s advanced protection, RMM’s real-time monitoring, and proactive Patch Management create a multi-layered defense strategy, safeguarding against both known and emerging cyber threats.
