Generate summary with AI

Artificial intelligence, or AI, implementation in the IT and business spaces is booming – but when it comes to AI, there are a few different categories to keep in mind. You’ve probably heard of generative AI, which is the most common type of AI model in use today. Generative AI is all about content creation, leveraging advanced learning tools to create fresh content based on predictions from learned patterns. But going forward, experts predict that agentic AI will take off.
Agentic AI is widely considered one of the “smartest” forms of AI available right now. So what sets it apart from generative AI? Agentic AI can perform complex tasks, making decisions and adapting to evolving situations in real time without the need for human intervention.
That’s right: The biggest difference between generative AI and agentic AI is that the latter can act autonomously. There are countless potential use cases for agentic AI… but today, let’s see what the experts are predicting.
#1: Agentic AI will autonomously resolve 80% of common customer service issues without human intervention by 2029
According to research from Gartner, Agentic AI will have one of its biggest effects on customer service issues. As Senior Director Analyst Daniel O’Sullivan of Gartner puts it, “Agentic AI has emerged as a game-changer for customer service, paving the way for autonomous and low-effort customer experiences.” With the potential for proactive issue identification and autonomous resolution, individual and business customers can hugely benefit from agentic AI.
We’re already seeing the power of AI-powered customer service platforms with AI tools for IT like Atera’s AI Copilot. IT teams are able to save an average of 11-13 hours per week and have seen 10X faster ticket resolutions… Now imagine how those numbers could be supercharged with the power of agentic AI.
#2: By 2028, 33% of enterprise software applications will include agentic AI
Gartner predicts that in the next three years, 33% of enterprise software applications will include agentic AI, furthering our suspicion that the future of AI is all about agency… and in turn, productivity. While agentic AI is still in its early stages, Gartner expects it to catch up quickly to the power of human agency, quickly closing the “AI agency gap” as seen in this chart:

#3: By 2028, 15% of day-to-day work decisions will be made by agentic AI
It’s clear that the “AI agency gap” is quickly closing, as suggested by Gartner’s October 2024 AI intelligence report. As more and more decisions get made by agentic AI, enterprise clients will see productivity and efficiency increase rapidly. Gartner underscores the importance of proactively mitigating employee pushback and embracing the AI digital transformation so that your company does not fall behind as agentic AI usage skyrockets.
#4: By the end of FY 2026, 1 billion AI agents will be in service
Salesforce co-founder and CEO Marc Benioff has no qualms about predicting a winner in the battle of AI models. Speaking out against what he sees as the overstated usefulness of generative AI bots, Benioff shared with Yahoo! Finance that he foresees 1 billion AI agents in service by the end of fiscal year 2026. He is pushing for more adoption of agentic AI in his own company as well, with the introduction of Agentforce, set to release more features in April 2025.
Benioff also shared some notable insights about using AI responsibly, acknowledging that the speed of AI development is moving faster than regulatory agencies. However, he shared that he believes most people are building AI tools with good intentions.
#5: By 2028, 75% of enterprise software engineers will use AI code assistants, up from less than 10% in early 2023
In November 2024, Gartner predicted that three-quarters of enterprise software engineers will rely on AI code assistants in the next three years. That’s a whopping 65% jump from two years ago! Using AI code assistants can help software engineers work faster and more efficiently, boosting overall company productivity.
#6: In 2025, 25% of companies that use gen AI will launch agentic AI pilots or proofs of concept, growing to 50% in 2027
Well-regarded consulting firm Deloitte predicts that the switch from generative AI to agentic AI will be fully in action by 2027. While Deloitte’s researchers believe that it will take time for the autonomous nature of agentic AI to be widely accepted, that proof of concept is coming. They cite the fact that investors have given over $2 billion to agentic AI startups in the past two years.
#7: Key clinical health AI applications can create $150 billion in annual savings for the United States healthcare economy by 2026
Accenture emphasizes the AI applications in the healthcare industry in its latest report, predicting that agentic AI tools will be able to perform both administrative and clinical healthcare functions, potentially saving $150 billion for the U.S. healthcare economy. The National Institutes of Health conducted further studies, finding that AI could improve healthcare quality in addition to saving time and money.

#8: By 2029, 10% of global boards will use AI guidance to challenge executive decisions that are material to their business
In an October 2024 report, Gartner predicted that executives will utilize the power of AI insights and analytics to support business decisions and thus improve results. Gone are the days of unilateral decisions by CEOs who can’t fully back their perspectives… and get to act anyway.
#9: By 2028, 40% of large enterprises will deploy AI to manipulate and measure employee mood and behaviors in pursuit of profit
In one of the eerier predictions on this list, Gartner speculates that agentic AI tools could be used to manipulate and track employees behavior and moods in an effort to optimize the efficiency of a workforce. It will be interesting to see just how many areas of business agentic AI will ultimately impact.
#10: By 2028, 40% of CIOs will demand “guardian agents” be available to autonomously track, oversee or contain the results of AI agent actions
Gartner believes that agentic AI tools will not be allowed to simply go unchecked. The concept of “guardian agents” has not been fully fleshed out, but it raises questions about the limits and oversight that companies might require for agentic AI.
#11: AI will be smarter than all humans combined by 2029
Whether or not you believe this prediction all depends on how seriously you take Elon Musk, the polarizing head of companies like Tesla, X (formerly known as Twitter), Neuralink, SpaceX, and others. He’s also the head of artificial intelligence company xAI, so he certainly has some knowledge of the space. What do you think of Musk’s prediction that AI will be smarter than the entire human race before the end of the decade?

#12: Statista predicts that the market value of agentic AI will reach $47.1B by the end of 2030
In a January 2025 report, Statista predicted that the market value of agentic AI will grow from $5.1 billion U.S. dollars in 2025 to over $47 billion by the end of 2030. This prediction for incredible growth underscores agentic AI’s potential to completely transform various different industries through its autonomous actions and decision-making power.
