Linux (device) monitoring done right

Atera includes Linux RMM and hardware monitoring, allowing you to set system activity thresholds that trigger alert notifications when breached. Best of all, these early warning systems give you the necessary time to react and solve issues long before they turn into problems.

System alerts appear in the Atera console and can be directed to key team members by email, collaboration platform messages, or SMS — you can now program your playground by leveraging the API to collaborating platforms.

Frequently asked questions

What is Linux RMM and why is it important for IT teams?
Linux RMM is a toolset designed to remotely manage and monitor Linux-based environments. It’s crucial for IT teams because it provides visibility into server health and performance, allowing for proactive maintenance and rapid troubleshooting of open-source environments from a single, centralized dashboard alongside Windows and Mac devices.
What Linux remote monitoring capabilities are included?
Atera’s Linux RMM software provides comprehensive monitoring capabilities, including real-time tracking of hardware health, system availability, and performance metrics. It includes automated alerts for critical system changes, asset management for hardware and software inventory, and the ability to run remote terminal commands or scripts to manage Linux endpoints efficiently.
How do I install the Atera RMM agent on a Linux device?
Installing the Atera Linux RMM agent takes just a few minutes. From the Atera console, generate the agent installer for Linux, copy the terminal command, and run it on your Linux device either locally or via SSH.

The agent installs automatically and checks into your Atera console, where you can assign it to a customer or site to apply the relevant monitoring policies, automation profiles, and configurations straight away. Full admin permissions are required for installation.

How do I monitor Linux server CPU, RAM, and Disk usage in real-time via Atera?
Once the Atera Linux agent is installed, every Linux device gets its own Agent Console showing live data for CPU load, memory usage, and disk usage, giving you immediate visibility without additional configuration.

To stay ahead of resource issues, you can configure Threshold Profiles to trigger alert notifications when CPU load, memory usage, or disk usage crosses your defined limits, with alerts routed to the console, email, or collaboration platforms.

The Linux RMM agent also monitors device availability, so you are notified the moment a server goes offline. For teams that need to extend monitoring beyond agent-installed devices, Atera also supports SNMP monitoring for Linux-based network devices such as routers and firewalls.

Which Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS) are supported by the Atera agent?
Atera’s Linux agent officially supports Debian 11 and above, Ubuntu 18 and above, CentOS Stream, and Red Hat (RHEL) 8 and above.

The agent may run on other distributions, but only these four are officially supported and tested by Atera, with guaranteed support, bug fixes, and security patches.

For patch management, automated patching via APT is currently available for Ubuntu and Debian only.

For remote access, note that AnyDesk is not supported on CentOS and Red Hat distributions, though Splashtop remote access is available for Linux devices with supported desktop environments.
