As IT professionals, we’re always on the lookout for tools that can streamline our workflows and enhance our security measures. Barracuda has been a go-to solution for many, but what if there were options that could take your IT management to the next level?

In this comprehensive guide, we’ll introduce you to 11 impressive Barracuda alternatives that are reshaping the industry. From AI-powered platforms to cost-effective solutions, these alternatives offer a range of features that might just be the perfect fit for your organization.

What is Barracuda?

Barracuda Homepage picture. It says, "Threats evolve. Email security should, too."

Barracuda offers remote monitoring and management (RMM), help desk and ticketing, and security solutions. Most of their offerings (such as BarracudaMSP) are tailored toward managed service providers. Barracuda is also known for its security and protection solutions, such as its Barracuda Backup product.

Why look for a Barracuda alternative?

After familiarizing ourselves with Barracuda and reading customer reviews, we noticed that the platform’s main limitations are its steep learning curve, inefficiencies in customer support, and a lack of transparency in pricing.

Here’s a closer look at each of the limitations according to user reviews.

1. Difficulty in using the platform

According to users on G2, Barracuda has a steep learning curve, some of the features are overwhelming to set up, and navigation takes a long time.

One G2 user specifically said, “Navigating from one option to another can take a while.”

Another G2 user said, “It’s tough setting up the alert structure so you don’t get overwhelmed with tickets. It was difficult to set up global alerts while restricting certain devices from alerting as well.”

Especially for those new to RMM platforms or with limited resources, this can be a deal-breaker. As you compare the different Barracuda alternatives, we’d suggest prioritizing platforms with intuitive user interfaces that enable fast onboarding.

2. Customer service may lack product knowledge

Barracuda claims on its website that it provides 24/7 support for all users. While this may be true, many users claim that the customer service reps aren’t knowledgeable about the product.

One Barracuda user on Reddit said, “Barracuda’s support doesn’t know the product they support or the repercussions of the suggestions they make.”

Here is the full comment the Reddit user left:

Barracuda review via Reddit. It says, "So I reached out to barracuda support and they suggested I whitelist all attempts to spoof our company. (and why I would strongly recommend no one use barracuda)
Rant
I was extremely sick last week, so I had assumed maybe I was groggy and misunderstood. Reviewing now that I'm better, my correspondence with barracuda went as follows: Using knowbe4 direct message injection, barracuda is suddenly sometimes detecting messages in-inbox, that did not flow as mail but were inserted. this seems to be new, so I reach out to both knowbe4 and barracuda for clarity. Barracuda's "americas support" provided me assistance who insisted that what I should do is whitelist that sender - or rather, enable all impersonation from IT@COMPANY.com, being our company. Which not only wouldn't really solve the problem of "how is barracuda detecting DMI?" but if the idiot had reviewed the dashboard, they would see that literally this address is used to attempt to send malicious material about 20 times a day, and exempt it would allow many of those to succeed. When I asked explained this and how dangerous it was and asked for the ticket to be escalated, the same dipshit replied with even worse spelling and formatting. Repeated requests to escalate the matter were met with the ticket being closed. This hasn't been the exception with barracuda support, it has been the rule. their support is dangerously stupid, and does not know the product they support, or the repercussions of the suggestions they make. So if support is an important consideration for you when looking into an email filter/security service, I would not recommend barracuda. I very much wish I'd gone with proofpoint at this point."

Barracuda review via Reddit

In the same Reddit thread, many other Barracuda users shared similar concerns about the level of knowledge Barracuda support reps have.

This is a notable drawback to Barracuda, as many alternatives, such as Atera, offer industry-leading 24/7 live chat support for all users.

3. Pricing is not transparent

When looking at Barracuda’s website, we can quickly see that all of the pricing plans are based on a custom quotation:

Screenshot of Barracudas price plans.

As the pricing is per quotation, it’s extremely difficult to compare Barracuda’s pricing to its competitors’ pricing.

Many Barracuda customers also don’t like this practice. One Barracuda user on Reddit said, “If pricing isn’t already there, or behind a simple email, we probably can’t afford them.”

Fortunately, a few Barracuda alternatives, including Atera, offer transparent pricing plans, which allows for some comparison.

What are Barracuda’s strengths?

Barracuda’s two strong points for MSPs are its wide range of products and RMM capabilities.

Let’s look into each of these in more detail.

1. Wide range of products

Barracuda offers a wide range of products, such as Barracuda RMM, Email Protection, XDR, and backup. This gives users a lot of flexibility, and combining them can provide a comprehensive security and management solution. One G2 user specifically appreciated Barracuda’s focus on security.

The downside of this is though the high cost of using multiple products instead of having an all-in-one IT management tool, such as Atera.

2. RMM capabilities

Barracuda’s RMM capabilities allow users to manage various endpoints, such as workstations and servers from one platform. A G2 user appreciated this and said, “being able to see all machines on the network from an unified view is nice.”

Barracuda pros and cons: Takeaways

To conclude the two previous sections, here are the pros and cons of Barracuda that are mentioned in many customer reviews.

The pros:

  • A 24/7 live chat support for all Barracuda customers.
  • Gives you a unified view of all client devices, servers, and endpoints.

The cons:

  • A steep learning curve and difficulties in using the platform
  • Customer service can be inefficient, and the customer service reps may not be knowledgeable about the product
  • Barracuda’s pricing is not transparent and you need to request a quotation to get it

Next, let’s go over the 11 best Barracuda alternatives for 2025, according to our own research and based on real customer reviews.

1. Atera

Atera vs. Barracuda: Key differences

1. Key features: Both Atera and Barracuda offer a remote monitoring and management (RMM) solution, allowing users to monitor and control network assets and endpoints remotely. While Barracuda only offers this capability to MSPs, Atera offers it to both MSPs and IT departments respectively, with specialized products for each.

2. User interface: Atera’s dashboards and user interfaces are built with accessibility and ease of use in mind, making onboarding and daily usage quick and easy. Barracuda’s users have noted that the platform has a steep learning curve, and the user interface needs an update.

3. Customer support: Atera offers world-class, 24/7 live chat support and also has self-help resources, such as knowledge bases and tutorials. Atera stands out with its IT community, where customers can troubleshoot problems and share best practices with others. In comparison, Barracuda has received criticism for their customer support.

4. AI advancements: Of Atera and Barracuda, Atera is the only one incorporating AI into its platform through Autonomous IT, which enhances technician and end-user efficiency. Whether it’s ticketing, device troubleshooting, scripting, or remote sessions, Atera’s AI is there to assist you in real-time!

Tip: For more differences, read our Atera vs. Barracuda MSP comparison guide.

Features and capabilities

In addition to RMM capabilities, Atera offers help desk and ticketing, remote access, patch management, and network discovery capabilities. Its advanced all-in-one capabilities are designed to meet the specialized needs of enterprises and SMBs.

Barracuda is mainly used by MSPs and focuses on RMM, security, and network protection capabilities.

We have recently expanded our robust suite of AI-powered IT features with our brand-new AI Copilot tools. Atera’s AI Copilot is every IT technician’s best friend. Why? It can help with numerous different tasks, including remote session summarization, ticket resolution, script suggestions, command-line generation, and so much more. AI Copilot users have even reported a 10X improvement in ticket resolution rates. That means your IT techs can cut down on busy work and free up their time to tackle the challenging issues that need their brainpower!

At Atera, we hold cybersecurity and network protection in high regard. Further, we provide a number of other important IT management features that make our platform a true all-in-one solution. We hold numerous ISO security certifications and are proud to be GDPR , AICPA SOC2, and HIPAA compliant.

Our features and functionality get even more impressive when you take into account our robust collection of third-party integrations. We also have remote access integrations with Splashtop, AnyDesk, and other top platforms. But our third-party integrations do not stop there! Other classics like IT Glue and Chocolatey are in the mix, and we even have integrations with Quickbooks and Xero to make billing for MSPs easier than ever.

User interface and overall usability

Using G2 to compare Atera and Barracuda MSP, Atera excels in every category. This includes aspects like the software’s ease of use and set-up and whether it meets the requirements for IT departments in addition to MSPs.

Atera was built from the ground up with ease of use and accessibility in mind, which is one of the reasons our customers rate the platform so highly. Atera users can be up and running within minutes of signing up!

Reviews related to Barracuda’s user interface are more varied since many customers report a steep learning curve and an outdated user interface. Some IT professionals, particularly those with limited resources or new to IT management platforms, might find Barracuda difficult to use.

Pricing and value for money

Like most other RMM pricing plans, Barracuda doesn’t publicly display its prices, and you need to request a quote from its team to get the pricing. For this reason, it is difficult to compare the cost of its software with Atera’s or that of other competitors. At Atera, we think it is important to have an accessible and holistic idea of how much you will be paying for our product.

Atera provides transparent pricing for both MSPs and IT departments. The standard pricing plans range from $129 to $209 per month for MSPs and from $149 to $219 per month for IT departments. Enterprise customers can request a custom quotation for more tailored offerings.

And, if you want to expand the functionality, ManageEngine’s different products can be integrated together.

Kaseya may be the right IT management solution for some teams, but there are drawbacks, including its pricing model. Similarly to Barracuda, Kaseya does not publish its pricing online, so you will need to request a custom quote from them. G2 users mention that the cost can increase quickly, and it is prohibitive for smaller businesses.

Domotz provides remote network monitoring and management solutions for IT professionals and MSPs. With Domotz, you can troubleshoot network and device issues in real time, and its alerting system ensures that all your networks stay secure.

For network monitoring, Domotz is a suitable alternative to Barracuda. It can then be integrated with the all-in-one solution Atera for more capabilities, including help desk and ticketing, patch management, remote access, reporting, and billing. Domotz has what some users may consider a drawback, though, which is their pay-per-endpoint pricing, a model that can get pricey quickly.

G2 Rating: 4.8 out of 5.0 (80+ reviews)

Capterra Rating: 4.9 out of 5.0 (100+ reviews)

Domotz Pricing:

  • Pro: $35 per month, per site

Similarly to Atera, Syncro offers a comprehensive solution. The difference is that Syncro only provides this to MSPs, while Atera offers dedicated products for both MSPs and IT departments respectively. Syncro’s users also mention on G2 that the software’s capabilities are limited, which can be a deal breaker for many IT teams.

G2 Rating: 4.5 out of 5.0 (200+ reviews)

N-able offers a flexible solution, but to achieve this, you might have to use several N-able products. This has its downside, which is increased subscription costs. Depending on your budget, the increased cost of combining products can be a deal-breaker.

Datto’s advantage over Barracuda is its third-party integrations, which have increased significantly since the company was acquired by Kaseya. The acquisition had positive aspects, but it also had drawbacks, including a decrease in the platform’s quality and a new clunky user interface – once again, as reported by many users and user reviews.

G2 Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars (540+ reviews)

Capterra Rating: 4.1 out of 5 stars (25+ reviews)

If you’re looking solely for PSA capabilities, HaloPSA can be a suitable solution. HaloPSA offers RMM integrations, but does not include built-in capabilities for it, which is a deal-breaker for most IT departments. For built-in RMM plus PSA, consider a HaloPSA alternative, like Atera.

G2 Rating: 4.8 out of 5.0 stars (25+ reviews)

The software also has the same downside as ManageEngine in that many of the features are not suitable for smaller businesses.
